OSF Saint Francis Cancer Care Accreditations

Commission on Cancer

TheAmerican College of Surgeons - Commission on Cancer (CoC)认证是一个正式的过程展示that a hospital meets a high standard for quality of care in its cancer program.

The standards are designed to improve safety and patient outcomes while encouraging continuous improvement within a hospital.

Being treated at a CoC accredited facility should strengthen your confidence in the quality and safety of the services you receive.

At OSF Saint Francis, we are firmly committed to achieving the best outcomes and quality of life for our patients with cancer, both during and after their treatment.

OSF Saint Francis has been a CoC-accredited cancer program since 1959. We measure the success of our program according to five key pillars:

  • Providing clinical services to offer state-of-the-art pretreatment evaluation, staging, treatment, and clinical follow-up for cancer patients seen at the facility for primary, secondary, tertiary or end-of-life care
  • A dedicated cancer committee leads the program through setting goals, monitoring activity, evaluating patient outcomes and improving care
  • Cancer conferences provide a forum for patient consultation and contribute to physician education
  • A quality improvement program that is the mechanism for evaluating and improving our patient outcomes
  • The Cancer Registry and database is the basis for monitoring the quality of care

Nationally Recognized Breast Center

OSF Saint Francis follows the highest standards of care when it comes to breast cancer and is accredited by theNational Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC),a national program overseen by the American College of Surgeons.

The NAPBC standards address the full continuum of cancer care. Per their website, the NAPBC standards address the following areas:

  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best care and treatment options available
  • Access to breast-specific information, education, and support
  • Breast center data collection on quality indicators for subspecialties involved in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment
  • Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
  • Information about participation in clinical trials and new treatment options

A Center of Excellence in Rectal Cancer Care

OSF Saint Francis is recognized for its excellence in rectal cancer care by theNational Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC).

OSF Saint Francis is a high-volume center, which NAPRC has determined to be a key component in the high quality treatment of rectal cancers.

Among multiple surgical options, we have been performing transanal endoscopic microsurgery longer than any downstate Illinois hospital.

Our multidisciplinary team streamlines the process by collaborating to schedule all tests in a single day. This reduces the average time from diagnosis to surgical consult and from diagnosis to treatment by more than two weeks, saving valuable time and reducing patient anxiety.
