Family-Centered Care

Tour SFH Women's CenterTour the OB DepartmentThe OSF St. Francis Labor and Delivery staff have been trained in the concept of family-centered care with one nurse caring for the family as a unit.

Our standard of care includes mother/baby skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth, rooming-in and supporting breastfeeding as much as possible during your stay.

In addition, we have family-focused care recovery, which allows moms to recover with their babies when having a scheduled C-section.

Epidurals for Pain Management During Delivery

Epidural anesthesia can help to offer an effective form of pain relief that can begin working within minutes with minimal side effects for both mom and baby.

After Baby is Born

At OSF St. Francis, we want to help you make a successful transition into parenthood.

Our nursing staff is there to address concerns you might have about caring for yourself and your baby to help you feel prepared for discharge.

Our Certified Lactation Consultants can help coordinate breastfeeding during your stay and after you return home. Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to help your baby transition from womb to world after delivery. This reinforces the bond between the two of you.

Our Mission Partners are dedicated to giving all mothers the information, confidence and skills necessary to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies or formula feeding in the safest and best manner possible.
