I try to empower patients to be responsible for their health and work with them to come up with a plan they are comfortable with. I want them to understand all options and know that the journey we take to formulate that plan is key to a successful outcome.
Open and honest conversations are important to Dr. Sampath Kumar. When he meets with patients, he wants to understand their goals.
“Not everyone’s goals of care are achievable given their medical condition,” he said. “Having an honest conversation is the best way to find a balance in continuing their health journey.”
Dr. Sampath Kumar lived with his grandparents for a short time as a child, and he watched them deal with congestive heart failure and the disabilities that come along with it. It was this experience that planted a seed to pursue cardiology.
“Cardiology is exciting for me,” he said. “I am able to care for patients in both an in-patient and out-patient setting, and this leads to better overall coordinated care.”
Dr. Sampath Kumar spent more than three years in the Indian armed forces in a special ops unit. He also worked as an ER physician in a Level 1 trauma center for five years and completed his MBA in 2018.
