David was born and raised in Westchester, Illinois and has decided to remain in Illinois to establish his cardiology career. After high school, David attended Benedictine University (graduated magna cum laude) on a piano scholarship, a talent he has developed since the age of four. While music was of great interest to David, it was during college that he took a hospital practicum course and made the decision to become a physician. He became board-certified in internal medicine in 2008. During medical school at Loyola, Dr. Thompson found the diversity of cardiovascular disease and the advances in treatment options exciting. He remained at Loyola to complete his cardiology fellowship along with advanced training in cardiovascular imaging including nuclear cardiology, and adult echocardiography. He also completed training to become a registered physician in vascular imaging to enhance his imaging expertise. Beyond his career, David is a husband and father. Throughout his medical training, he is especially grateful for the wonderful support he has always received from his wife, parents, and sister. Having met his wife at Benedictine University, they now have a young son who keeps them very active. David loves spending time with his family, traveling and sports. He particularly enjoyed high school baseball and was formerly IHSA certified as a baseball official.
