My patients are my number one priority. I believe in open, candid discussions, working with them and their families to develop a treatment plan, and personally guiding their treatment as if they were my family member.
I was drawn to medicine because it was a marriage of my two great passions: science and helping others," Dr. O'Halloran said. "I found a profession that allows me to use my love of biology, engineering, chemistry, math and physics to help my fellow man."
Surgical oncology as a specialty was particularly appealing to her because there's so much opportunity for research and innovation.
Dr. O'Halloran also believes it's important to share her knowledge with patients, to help them better understand what they are dealing with. "We will spend as much time as necessary talking, looking at pictures and asking questions until you feel comfortable with your understanding of your disease and what the treatment options are," she said.
A native of Naperville, Illinois, Dr. O'Halloran married her college sweetheart. They have two daughters and enjoy hiking, biking and fishing as a family.
