Mark was born and raised in Ohio. He says he became interested in medicine, and especially heart disease, when he was just 11 years old. He read a book by a South African dentist who was one of the first heart-transplant recipients. From that point on, his sights were set on cardiology. Dr. Hsu received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo and went on to complete his internship and residency at the Akron General Medical Center. He then completed his fellowship at Jewish Hospital of St. Louis (Washington University). After practicing in Alabama and Wisconsin, Dr. Hsu joined HeartCare Midwest in 1999 and is a clinical assistant professor at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria. A member of the American College of Cardiology, he has also served on the clinical faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mark and his wife Wanda have three children, Claire, Andrew, and Anna. He enjoys bicycling, playing the guitar, drawing, and painting.
