Outcomes

STS-ND_Logo_2018.jpgThe Congenital Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of Illinois is a leader in providing some of the nation’s best outcome statistics in pediatric and congenital cardiovascular care. These outcomes reflect not only our dedication to our patients, but our commitment to our Mission: to provide the greatest care and love. As we relentlessly strive to improve our patient experiences, these outcomes keep us accountable to our patients, our medical peers and our Ministry.

With this approach, our program maintains a 97.1 percent overall discharge survival rate – better than Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) benchmarks. Our program was one of the first to participate in STS public reporting and our surgical outcomes are available on theSTS的网站.

  • Congenital Cardiac Surgery Mortality by Complexity | 2018-2022

  • congenital-cardiac-surgery-mortality-by-complexity.pngComplexity Stratified Operations (STAT) Outcomes:Complexity stratification is a tool for grouping many different operations into groups according to mortality risk. The groupings are called STAT (The Society of Thoracic Surgeons-European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery) categories and range 1-5 with 1 being associated with the lowest mortality risk and 5 the highest mortality risk. Some examples of common operations in each category are as follows. Please contact you or your child’s congenital cardiologist/cardiac surgeon with questions regarding STAT categories.

STAT Category 1- Atrial septal defect repair, Ventricular septal defect repair
STAT Category 2- Bi-directional Glenn, Fontan, Coarctation of the aorta repair, Tetralogy of Fallot repair
统计类别3 -房室管修复,基于“增大化现实”技术terial switch operation, Rastelli procedure, Conduit placement
STAT Category 4- Interrupted Aortic Arch repair, Truncus arteriosus repair, modified Blalock-Taussig shunt procedures, Pulmonary artery banding
STAT Category 5- Norwood procedure, Damus-Kaye-Stansel procedure
